WELCOME TO THE FOLD 

The Fold is a TV and Film production company from BAFTA and RTS nominated, BIFA winning, UK-based Producers Michelle Stein and Jennifer Monks who have a combined 20+years in the industry. The company produces high quality authored work from unique creative voices, serving the UK and global market from their North West of England base.

The team enjoy enduring relationships with the creatives they work with across multiple projects and formats, including talents such as Moin Hussain, whose first feature premiered at Venice 2023, BAFTA and BIFA nominated d/Deaf director Ted Evans, alongside supporting other established visionaries and exciting new voices. Current film projects include Hussain’s second feature and Evans’ debut, Sean Dunn's The Fall Of Sir Douglas Weatherford backed by BBC, BFI, Screen Scotland, Mubi and Charades alongside untitled features from The Favourite writer Deborah Davis; Screen Star of Tomorrow Genevieve Barr; Black Cake’s Kara Smith; Sundance Grand Jury Nominee Mike Forshaw and author and playwright Rory Gleeson. TV projects include works from Andy Yerlett, Kefi Chadwick, and Lizzie Nunnery.

The Fold is a dynamic and nimble outfit which also acts as Co-Producers and Service Company for both UK and international productions shooting across the English regions and beyond.

The Fold’s slate is currently supported by the BBC Small Indie Fund.

Jennifer Monks
Founder

Jennifer Monks is a BAFTA, RTS and BIFA nominated producer.  Hailing from Liverpool, Jennifer’s past projects include producing a BAFTA nominated documentary for the BBC, a BBC Culture in Quarantine drama and BIFA nominated single TV drama To Know Him (Produced alongside business partner Michelle). 


Jennifer brings a wealth of production experience into The Fold from her time as a freelance Co-Producer and Line Producer for some of the biggest and best indies in the UK. In this time, she has headed the production of multiple independent feature films for funders such as BBC Films, BFI, Film4, A24, Screen Scotland, Netflix and Screen Yorkshire.  She Co-Produced 14 itimes BIFA nominated Scrapper, which won the World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury prize at Sundance 2023 and was nominated for Outstanding British Film at the 2024 BAFTA's.

Jennifer's previous company, Pencil Trick,  was identified as one of the top 50 UK creative businesses by Creative England and was a recipient of a BFI Vision Award.

Michelle Stein
Founder

Michelle Stein is a BAFTA, RTS nominated and BIFA winning producer.  Her most recent feature film, sci-fi Sky Peals, made with writer/director Moin Hussain was backed by Film4, BFI and Screen Yorkshire, is being sold by Bankside and premiered in Venice Critics Week 2023.   

 

Over the last 16 years, Michelle has worked on a plethora of projects from producing a micro-budget first feature that secured international theatrical distribution to developing a big-budget animation franchise with Aardman, based on original IP sourced and developed by her.  Michelle has a keen eye for international-level talent and has produced content that has screened in competition at A-list festivals such as Cannes, SXSW, LFF, Tribeca and Venice and been bought by the BBC and Sky.  

 

Michelle’s previous company, Escape Films, was a recipient of the BFI Vision Award.

Nichola Martin

Development Consultant - Drama

Nic is a producer, EP and consultant with over 20 years experience across film and TV. Most recently, she produced Craig Robert’s feature, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPEN (2022), starring Mark Rylance, Sally Hawkins and Rhys Ifans. From 2017-2020 she oversaw the development and production of Baby Cow Productions’ feature film and TV drama slates, where she developed and was executive producer on Jon S Baird’s BAFTA nominated STAN & OLLIE (2018), starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly.  

From 2013-2017, Nic was executive producer at BBC Films, commissioning and developing film including Stephen Frears’ FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS and PHILOMENA; Amma Asante’s A UNITED KINGDOM; Andy Serkis’ BREATHE; Saul Dibb’s SUITE FRANCAISE; Thomas Napper’s JAWBONE; Will Oldroyd’s LADY MACBETH; Sergei Polunin documentary DANCER; DAVID BRENT: LIFE ON THE ROAD and ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS: THE MOVIE.  In 2012 she produced MJ Delaney’s debut feature POWDER ROOM, adapted by Rachel Hirons’ from her stage play WHEN WOMEN WEE.
